More About Chiara's Classroom

Educational Philosophy

When I think of childhood, I think of endless possibilities. I think of exploring the world and taking in all the wonders it has to offer. This sense of endless opportunity and wonder is one of the reasons I wanted to work with children and their families. I want to better my community by doing the work necessary to create a generation of children that are empathetic, kind, and courageous in their efforts to learn. I have been working with children for over a decade and I see this as a career I grow old with. I want to incorporate my personal life experience along with universal advice from renowned experts to create a safe, exciting, inclusive, and playful classroom.  I view early childhood education and the teachers who work in this field as facilitators. They are there to create purposeful learning experiences along with promoting future development and growth.  Teachers need to be just as curious about the world around them. Constantly educating themselves on how to teach their students best and validate each student's individual strengths. I think that one of the ways to strengthen learning is by looking at brain development to determine how children learn. Children learn best when their minds are engaged.

The Power Of Play
"Play is the work of childhood." Jean Piaget

When I think of the word play, I think of the ability to learn from the world around you, the ability to create from nothing, and the ability to connect with something bigger than yourself. Play is a connector in our society; it connects us to a world of wonder and endless possibilities. According to scientist Jaak Panksepp the ability to play lives in the primitive part of the human brain. Play is instinctual.
