My Top Ten Halloween Books

Okay, it's almost Halloween the second-best holiday of the year next to Arbor Day of course. You're carving pumpkins, putting up decorations, and buying your child's second costume of the season because they just changed their mind last minute. I love Halloween, you want to know what else I love... books!! (Nice segway right?) So, let's get into why you really clicked on this link. Without further ado here are my top ten Halloween books!!

1: How to Make Friends with a Ghost

How to Make Friends with a Ghost, written and illustrated by Rebecca Green. Halloween can often have many scary elements and it's important to remember that this holiday should be fun for children. The scariest part of Halloween for kids should be running out of room in their trick-or-treat bags. This book helps children understand that sometimes things go bump in the night but it's nothing we should be afraid of. This book is beyond sweet and the illustrations are amazing!!

2: The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt

The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt, written by Riel Nason and illustrated by Byron Eggenschwiler. This book will get you in your feels, so I'm warning you now!! This story is about a little ghost who looked a bit different than the rest of his family and friends because his presence was hidden under a heavy quilt. This story helps teach children the importance of self-acceptance and focuses on social-emotional learning. So it's kind of my jam!!

3: The Little Kitten

The Little Kitten, written and illustrated by Nicola Killen is a sweet story about a little one named Ollie who is on an adventure to return a lost kitten to their home. This is such a fun and easy-to-follow story that your kiddos will love this Halloween season!

4: the scariest book ever

The scariest book ever, written and illustrated by Bob Shea. Bob Shea is an award-winning author and illustrator and this book demonstrates that. This is a super funny book and will leave your children in stitches. You will feel like a stand-up comic who is crushing it on stage. Kid humor at its finest.

5: Halloween Must Be Near

Halloween Must Be Near, written and illustrated by A.L Bullard. This is an easy read for little ones who are counting down the days until Halloween. This book talks about all the exciting things that happen during the Halloween season!

6: The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything, written by Linda Williams and illustrated by Megan Lloyd. Ahhh a classic, you might even remember this book from your childhood. An engaging read-aloud is about a woman who can’t be spooked by Halloween. You will quickly find out why. This lady is tough and nothing will scare her.

7: Gilbert The Ghost

Gilbert The Ghost, written and illustrated by Guido Van Genechten. This is a lovely book about a ghost who learns to love being different. This is an award-winning picture book and it definitely deserved to be heard this Halloween season.

8: Boo To You

Boo to You written and illustrated by Lois Ehlert. I love Lois Ehlert, the illustrations in these books are so unique and wonderful. The book has a pretty wild story but the illustrations lead to so many wonderful options for activities. For example, finding some materials around your house and making your own Halloween display. Enjoy getting creative!

9: Pumpkin Island

Pumpkin Island, written and illustrated by Arthur Geisert. This is a cute book about a little island where people go about their day-day lives until a storm leaves a single pumpkin in the town. The pumpkin opens up and the seeds begin to spread. Then the one pumpkin turns into two, then three, then four. Then suddenly the town is overrun by pumpkins! Such a fun book with wonderful illustrations to help celebrate Halloween.

10: Los Gatos Black on Halloween

Los Gatos Black on Halloween written by Marisa Montes and illustrations by Yuyi Morales. This is such a cool multilingual book, written in both Spanish and English. This book defiantly gets you in the Halloween spirit, and my spooky peeps will love it. Btw the illustration might be a little scary for some littles but you know your kids best!
