What To Do When Math isn't For You

Hi, my names Chiara and I'm bad at math...

"Hi Chiara!"

So, math isn't your thing and your worried that it will hurt your teaching ability or your parenting skills!! I mean what happens when that dreaded day comes and your child says, "hey mom can you help me on my algebra homework?" Or you student says, "that's not the way Mr. Johnson taught us math." Well look out kids there's a new Mr. Johnson is town (no disrespect to anyone with that last name.) I have a few websites that can help you help them. Stay strong we can kick this bad at math thing together.

This is a cool organization that works to support early math. Their mission statement says:

"We believe that you have to understand what you are teaching to teach for understanding. Because of this, we believe that teachers and caregivers must understand what early math is, as well as understand precursor concepts that lead to mathematical thinking. It isn’t just counting, and it isn’t just rote memorization of shape names."

Sounds pretty professional. My favorite part is, that they have a whole section where they teach adults fundamental math. Maybe you never quite understood division, or you just need to brush up on your times tables. The Erikson Institiute has got you covered!! They have so many resources you won't even know what to do with yourself. "Was I always good at math?" Might cross you mind.

Academy sounds fancy!! Khan Academy states on their website "We’re working hard to ensure that Khan Academy empowers coaches of all kinds to better understand what their children or students are up to and how best to help them." The program offers lots of free courses and lesson to help get you up to speed on your math skills. From K-12 they got you covered.

Alright, how are we feeling? Better? Awesome, well enjoy learning math again and I hope these websites help!!
